We are Deb and Chuck Powers and have been breeding alpacas since 2003. While alpacas are a newer livestock for us, I(Deb)have been breeding, raising and showing Arabian horses for many years. This knowledge and experience has been invaluable for the addition of alpacas to our ranch.
Chuck, a New Mexico native who was raised in California, has lived in Colorado for most of his adult life. He works for the City of Colorado Springs in Utilities and is looking forward to early retirement in September 2005 when he will devote his full time to the ranch. I am a Wisconsin native, and, yes, a Packer fan, and am a registered nurse with background in cardiology, surgery and intensive care nursing. I currently run a home-based medical transcription company, ProScribe, Inc., which allows me to be full time at the ranch to keep an eye on the animals. It also allows for flexibility in taking care of the ranching duties.
I am a knitter and was first introduced to alpacas through the yarn in the late 1980s. Not having a clue what these animals were, I was intrigued by the wonderful quality of the yarn I was handling. Since the yarn was called Andean Alpaca, I knew it came from South America but had no idea what the animal that produced this yarn looked like and wondered why we didnt have any of them in the United States. Little did I know there was a small fledging herd already here. It was not until years later that I met the actual animals, and the rest, as they say, is history.
We offer services in breeding, sales, agisting (boarding), sale of livestock guard dogs, and customer support.
